About Redcar and Cleveland
Mind
Redcar and Cleveland Mind’s reputation is built
on our commitment to our mission statement, aims and values. The
organisation began in Redcar in the late 1980s in response to an
expressed need for a service for people with mental health problems
managed by, and for, local people. Affiliation to National Mind
and charity registration in 1991 enabled us to work within a network
of support and shared values.
In response to local government reorganisation we became “Redcar
and Cleveland Mind” in 1996. We now have 130 members, 15 paid
workers and 34 volunteers and trustees.

The whole organisation was involved in using art to explore and come to a greater understanding of what diversity means. With funding from National Mind, this 12 month project included a drumming CD, sculpture and an animation as well as individual works. The variety of media and the very different contributions emphasised the underlying theme of diversity
